Curriculum Updates

I'm sure you are eager to know more about how our classroom works and the curriculum this year. Below is a brief outline:

Inquiry - Our very first Unit of Inquiry is based on examining Health and Well-Being, under the transdisciplinary theme, ‘Who we are’. This will be a year long unit and we will touch upon various aspects of health and well being throughout the year.

Central Idea: A balance of factors can contribute to health and well-being.
Lines of Inquiry
•    Factors that contribute to health
•    How these factors can contribute to health and wellbeing.
•    Ways of maintaining health and well-being

Reading
•    Students will be using the Oxford Reading Tree Programme and will be given books as per their reading needs. Students will be regularly assessed to monitor progress.
•    In addition, we encourage students to issue books of different genres from our Junior School library. They can also request Ms Veena, our librarian, to help them in choosing their books.
•    We recommend that students read books of their choice daily to experience the joy of reading.

Play-Based Learning
In the Junior School, we believe in play-based learning and hence, this will be integrated into our engagements and experiences.

Assessment
•    Assessment of, and for learning will be an ongoing process and achieved mainly through regular feedback and feed-forward.
•    Students will be encouraged to work on their personalised learning goals and challenge themselves.
•    We shall have scheduled PTMs throughout the year to discuss students’ progress and goals.

Homework
Students will be asked to work on research projects, practice language and mathematical concepts or conduct interviews, surveys, etc. as per individual and class needs. Reading for 20mins is for every day.

Thanks to all the parents who attended the Virtual Culture Circle, and I really appreciate your valuable input during the session.  I really understand that others would have loved to be part of it but missed it due to unavoidable reasons.
