Updates on what happened in Grade 4K-Week 7 (5th-9th Sep 2022)

 

 PE by Ms Vajravani

Students practiced basic football skills individually and with partners. They played a match (football) and participated in running races to improve their strength.  





 

Hindi by Ms Meena

Students have created their own Hindi dictionary and added hard words they came across while reading from their Hindi Library book. They have also started to reflect in their personal diary. 


Telugu by Ms Kasturi

Students participated in Quiz on Grammar. Students were introduced to the writing journal: diary writing. In reading, they read their leveled guided reading tasks. 

Maths, English and Unit of Inquiry updates

In Maths, students used various manipulates to deepen their understanding of skip counting using larger numbers.

In English, students had their regular reading sessions of Author Study, Guided reading, and Words their way activities. In writing students, deepen their understanding of how to write a persuasive text, they looked four important persuasive tools for appealing to the audience: the Ethos, Pathos, Logos and Kairos.

As part of the Unit of Inquiry, students are researching groups, each group inquiring into different aspects of sustainability - how to make sustainable decisions when buying a product, how to be sustainable with consumption of different resources , sustainability and climate change and getting inspired by sustainability models from yesteryears. 


In class, each group had the opportunity to develop a basic understanding of the topic they are inquiring into.
The sustainable decisions when buying a product group learnt about the three pillars of sustainability. They also looked at how to create a graph to evaluate the sustainability of a product before buying it.
The second group read case studies of children from different parts of the world and used the ecological footprint calculator to analyse daily lifestyles and see how they affect our planet.
The third group is inquiring into how the climate is changing and steps we need to take to create a sustainable future.
The last group is studying sustainability models from yesteryears that inspire us to bring back practices that make our future sustainable.
As a next step, we are required to conduct an interview - INDIVIDUALLY and record it in the format specified in the slide deck. They will collate the group’s data to develop shared understanding.

Maths by Inaya Lakhani and Arjun 

Maths Journal
We learned about the Indian system and the International system. We also learned about using the Bar model to compare larger numbers.








 

  English by Rishith, Shreeram Kandula

We learned about the life of Roald Dahl and reflected on the literature study books, choice boards and sorting words. These are two new routines that we are doing as part of our language learning - Word Study and Author Study.



 

Telugu by Ms Kasturi and  Anagha Brahmanipalli
Students participated in the” Telugu Bhasha Dinotsavam” assembly. They did it very well. Their Ganesh song is very nice. Students are learning their comfortable tasks in Reading and writing. 










In Telugu, we are trying to finish is Telugu book. Also, read words 

Enrichment:  Zayden Merchant Siddarth Bharathan

This week we went to senior school to play volleyball. Our sir's name was Mr Raju, and he taught us an upper arm and lower arm. We also had to line up, sir would throw us the ball, and we had to throw it back using an upper arm or lower arm. After that sir put us in 4 groups and we did zig-zag with the upper arm and lower arm. And we won three rounds.

Unit 2 Sustainability Journal 

This week in the Unit of Inquiry, we started our second Unit, which is on Sustainability. We discussed what we should stop doing and what we should start doing to protect our earth. We looked to get a better understanding of the flow of the unit by identifying the key concepts related to the unit and connecting them to the lines of inquiry at the learned sustainability.

Unit1- Our Yearlong Unit- Health and well-being

Our Unit ' Health and well-being is a yearlong unit which means that we will intentionally focus on our health and well-being throughout the year. We use to keep a check on our efforts is the 'Health and Well-being' bingo that we fill every day (one bingo slide per week). Students who can complete all aspects of it throughout the week get a shout-out on Monday morning. We brought a temporary closure to the unit in a class by demonstrating our understanding of the factors that affect health and well-being using the Claim Support Question thinking routine.


Swimming  Aadhya, Chaiithra
This week in swimming, we were learning breaststroke and freestyle.   After we finished practicing sir, let us have playtime, and it was fun. 😄

Art Edya,Anika
In Art, we are working on pointillism. In our last classes, we were doing Asymmetrical faces.😄
 

Music Nasr and Janvi
In music, we have learned about a song and types notes so that we can play the keyboard. We learned different notes too. We are learning piano soon.

Hindi Ms Meena Uniyal and Faiz Dobaria
Students read books from the library with their peers outdoors. They performed a drama on the topic "Rakho tandurusti ka khayal."
This week we did our reading assessment, and we are practising for our Hindi assembly. We played some Hindi games.
